Long Island, New York, and Same Sex Marriage

Newsday reports that two male individuals were issued tickets for trespassing at the Oyster Bay clerk’s office when they asked for a marriage license.

The two men had been prepared to be arrested to make a point about the need for a law in New York that would allow same-sex marriage. But the couple relented and agreed beforehand with town officials to leave once they were ticketed.

Good for these guys and the gay community. A statement needed to be made and I’m glad Long Island served as the place for it. Honestly, whatever one wishes to do in privacies of their own homes should be allowed by the state as long as no great harm is being done. I’m sure this is just the start of this issue on Long Island and hopefully for the gay community the ball starts rolling in Albany.
